Maybe Fate Intervened

I was craving Jack-in-the-Box tacos mid afternoon April 9, 2019. There was a crash southbound on the 14 freeway just south of Acton between an RV and a tanker truck causing a traffic jam. I went north of the freeway to avoid the freeway traffic onto Sierra Highway which is a frontage road that parallels the freeway. Halfway to Jack-in-the Box, other drivers avoiding the freeway were backed up for almost a mile before the main stop sign in town.
I decided to turn my motorcycle around and take another route so I did a U-turn and started increasing my speed. A lady in a white car pulled out in front of me to make a U-turn but she was too close for me to stop in time. I swerved to miss her and went down, crushing my right leg below the knee. She didn’t stop.
My tibia and fibula were shattered.
I had to put Kathy in a care facility as her dementia had rendered her unable to care for herself for nearly 4 years. I was going to be laid up for a long time and unable to be her caretaker. After 4 months in my care facility, I released myself but I am still not allowed to put full weight on my leg.
With my incapacity, coupled with her continuing decline, I decided to keep her in a care facility because I can’t give her the best care anymore. It is the right decision but it is difficult to relinquish my position. I expected to care for her until she passed on.
The place that was available to her is rated 2 stars out of 5 but I spent time there myself and it is good care.
Now it is time to figure out how to be with family more and get some kind of work again once i'm healed.
I think fate, if it exists at all, intervened as I was too stubborn to recognize that I was no longer the best person for Kathy’s care.
